Zoom Invigorates Business Communication - Tata Tele Business


Introduction

The company runs an online marketplace for professional services such as beauty treatments, home/office cleaning, pest control, appliance servicing and repair, house painting, and more.

Since its inception in 2014, it has grown to become Asia’s biggest online booking platform for home services. It operates in more than 40 Indian cities and eight cities in other countries. The credentials of all professionals providing their services through the brand are thoroughly checked, and they go through special training before listing their business on the website.

When the pandemic brought an unprecedented work-from-home phase across industries, the organisation needed reliable software to organise its business meetings and streamline collaboration with stakeholders. The limited efficacy of consumer-grade digital communication applications became a reason to search for a more evolved tool.

The partnership between Tata Tele Business Services (TTBS) and Zoom Video Communications – two trusted communication technology companies – sparked the organisation’s interest in Zoom, which TTBS offers with an enterprise-grade SLA in India.

Business Challenges

The company has multiple branches and manages thousands of vendors who provide services to its customers. It was essential to stay connected to these stakeholders for business continuity even as COVID-19 disrupted normal operations. A virtual meeting platform was also required to streamline internal collaboration.

While the team had tried various online communication apps’ free versions and also subscribed to a fee-based service offered by one of TTBS’ competitors, the results were disappointing. The key challenges with software systems used were:

  • The number of participants in some of the conferences was high – free apps could not accommodate all the attendees invited for the session. Some of them also failed to support long-duration meetings and limited the number of meetings that could be scheduled in a week/month.
  • It was difficult to keep the minutes of meetings as not all applications offered recording facilities. At times, the video and audio quality remained sub-par despite good internet bandwidth.
  • The security of the applications in use was unreliable, and their scalability was severely restricted. Despite getting charged for the usage, the team could not get the level of encryption that it sought in its business communications.

Zoom’s feature-rich digital communication platform that could be used on any desktop or mobile device addressed the organisation’s problems:

  • With the scope to include up to 1,000 video participants in a single conference or webinar, Zoom removed the company’s hurdle. Authorised users could organise any number of meetings without incurring extra charges.
  • Zoom offered HD quality for video and audio. Its ambient noise cancellation feature allowed attendees to join a meeting from any location. The sessions could also be recorded in MP4/M4A formats for local or cloud storage.
  • Security concern was resolved by a 256-bit AES application layer encryption for shared content and 256- bit TLS encryption for network connection. Zoom also came with role-based user security, waiting rooms, locked meetings, and domain restrictions.
